Fashion Display Careers



Fashion display careers involve creating visually appealing store windows and displays to entice customers to purchase a store’s merchandise.


Display Designer:

Duties: The display designer plans and erects commercial displays, such as those in windows and the interiors of retail stores and for trade show exhibits.

Qualifications: The display designer must understand a company’s marketing strategy and figure out ways to make the displays that they create reflect the marketing strategy. They also sketch and model the proposed displays, find and create props for the displays, plan, create, assemble, maintain and take down displays, and arrange display fixtures and lighting. They also order display merchandise such as racks, poles, mannequins and shelves.

Education: The minimum education required is a high school diploma. Those with a diploma or certificate in visual merchandising, graphic design, interior design, fashion design or a fine arts degree will have more of a chance to get started in this career. Display Manager:

Duties: The candidate for this position may manage employees responsible for design, layout, cost estimates, and construction of exhibits and displays. They may also design displays to maximize effectiveness and identify potential areas for improvement to ensure display objectives are met.

Qualifications: The candidate should be familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. They should rely extensively on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The candidate performs a variety of tasks. They lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. The candidate for this career typically reports to a head of a unit/department.

Education: The level of education may be a bachelor's degree and experience in the field or in a related area.
