Media Work Careers



Media work involves using different medium to reach targeted customers to get the best response from the target market with the least amount of money.


Fashion Illustrator:

Duties: The candidate for this career creates sketches and drawings of apparel, shoes, and accessories for fashion advertisements, catalogues, and other media. They conceptualize and draw by hand or use special computer software programs such as CAD.

Qualifications: Computer skills with CAD software, drawing skills, a high level of creativity and artistic expression, the ability to self promote and a good business sense are required.

Education: Although not required a two year or four year degree in art, drawing, fashion design or fashion illustration is a plus.

Fashion Model:

Duties: These individuals convey an idea by their appearance to persuade people to buy the products that they are advertising. They work with clothing, make-up, and costume accessories in a variety of poses and settings.

Qualifications: The candidate for this career should be photogenic and physically attractive, with height, weight, and body measurements meeting industry standards. There should be familiarity with different modeling techniques, formal fashion show procedures and the use of cosmetics, fashion sense, good people skills, self-discipline and a positive attitude.

Education: Although not required, college degrees or coursework in art, drama, dance or fashion design is beneficial.

Fashion Photographer:

Duties: The fashion photographer generally positions subjects to be photographed, arranges lighting to achieve the desired effect, determines camera angle, loads and unloads film, mixes developing chemicals, develops exposed film, prints the film, enlarges, reduces, and retouches pictures previously developed. They will use a variety of equipment to accomplish their tasks.

Qualifications: The candidate for this career should have excellent manual dexterity, good eye sight, color vision and artistic ability. They should have an eye for composition as well as the ability to work creatively with their chosen medium.

Education: Although a degree is not required, a degree in photography is a plus due to the competitiveness of the field.

Fashion Writer:

Duties: The candidate for this career expresses, promotes, and interprets fashion ideas and facts in written form.

Qualifications: These individuals have analytical ability, the ability to think clearly and to communicate those thoughts, and they must have the ability to do two and three dimensional conceptualizing. They need a working knowledge of clothing construction and must keep abreast of fashion trends.

Education: A college degree is required, preferably in communications, journalism or English.
